The biological basis of mental illness is not fully understood. The main aim of my research is to identify neuropathological features associated with schizophrenia, bipolar disorder and major depressive disorder using post-mortem human brain tissue. Current projects focus on white matter pathology, brain inflammation and glial cells. In addition, I am interested in the effects of antipsychotic medications on the brain, including alterations in lipid levels and damage related to oxidative stress.
