To celebrate the accomplishments and contributions made by women and gender-diverse faculty and staff at UBC, Dr. Naznin Virji-Babul, DMCBH member and Senior Advisor to the Provost on Women and Gender-Diverse Faculty, spearheaded the creation of the Envisioning Equality project. The goal of the project was to create a unique award designed to “envision equality” to recognize exceptional women and gender-diverse faculty and staff of the UBC community while harnessing the transformative power of art in public space.
“This is one of the most wonderful, inspiring projects that I have taken on as Senior Advisor to the Provost,” says Dr. Virji-Babul. “I hope that when people see the banners along Main Mall at UBC with pictures of powerful and accomplished women, it will shatter stereotypes, shift mindsets and reframe their image of what a scientist, mathematician, engineer, professor, investigator, or director looks like.”
